The
hall was built in 1956, and, to our knowledge, the roof has never been
replaced. In many ways, this is testament to the quality of roofing
corrugated iron available in those days. However, the committee has
been advised that the time has come to have the roof either seriously
repaired, or replaced with a more modern material.
In
January 2011, the roof over the new front steps was covered in
Colorbond sheeting as part of the front facade upgrade project, and
this product has been chosen to replace the roof over the main body of
the hall and both rooms at the front.
The committee
sought, and was fortunate to obtain a Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund grant to assist with the
costs of the project. Advertising locally, many quotes were received,
and these have been seriously studied by the management committee.
After a very difficult decision, the winning tenderer was Newline Metal Roofing of Upper Coomera.
The
contract was signed at the hall on the 8th September, and work
commenced on the 16th with the erection of the safety scaffolding.
Expected completion is the 19th September.
The following photos show the re-roofing progress. The first is the
original roof, followed by progress photos over the weekend. The last
is the finished product. All this was carried out over one of the hottest
September weekends we have experienced.
